Noise Reduction

Assalamualaikum & Salam Sejahtera.

Contoh mudah, sila tgk gambar kat bwh ni:

Bagi sesetengah jurufoto, noise ni mencacatkan gambar.

Maka sebab itu camera manufacturer mencipta sebuah feature yg dinamakan sbg Noise Reduction.

Setiap kamera digital, ada feature Noise Reduction yg mana fungsinya ialah mengurangkan noise yg terhasil jika ISO yg tinggi digunakan. Utk singkatan, aku tulis Noise Reduction sbg NR.

Mungkin namanya berbeza bg setiap manufacturer, tapi fungsinya sama, iaitu mengurangkan noise yg terhasil.

Sumber: imaging-resource

Sumber: photoplusmag
Sumber: imaging-resource

Perhatikan, gambar yg sama dgn ISO yg sama, tapi apabila NR digunakan, gambar menjadi kurang noise, tapi nampak soft dan kurang detail.

Noise Reduction: Mana Better, On atau Off?

Aku takkan pakai fungsi NR ni. Sebab aku ni jenis sayang detail. Bagi aku gambar tu agak useless kalau terang tp takdak detail.

Maka, aku shoot je pakai ISO tinggi mcm biasa.
And then masa post processing, kalau perlu, aku akan gunakan Noise Reduction yg ada dlm Adobe LR (atau software lain) dan aku boleh mengurangkan sendiri noise tu mengikut tahap citarasa aku supaya detail terpelihara.

Noise Reduction dalam Adobe LR

Korang plak, try la amik gambar with and without NR dan compare sendiri hasilnya, pastu buatlah keputusan nak On atau Off.

Mcm biasa, kalau nak tau katne fungsi NR dlm kamera korang tu, please, jgn buang masa tanya aku sbb aku takkan carikkan utk korang. Sila baca user manual. Sekian mekasih.

Semoga info yg sedikit ni dpt menambah ilmu pengetahuan anda dlm bidang photography.

50 Reasons NOT to Date A Photographer:

Gambar hiasan yg langsung takde kaitan dgn artikel

‪1.‬ They rather hold their bulky camera, than hold hands with you.
‪2. ‬On a romantic date, you’ll watch the sun go down and think “Wow this is gorgeous” and they’ll go “mirror lock, tripod, and stop down f/8 at 1/125.”
‪3.‬ You’ll never be able to enjoy tv, movies, or magazines because they’ll point out all the visual flaws.
‪4.‬ They like to sit in obscure coffee shop and voyeuristically watch people for great lengths of time.
‪5. ‬If you’re taking a walk outside and you come across some “interesting light” they will make you sit/stand/pose in public so that they can take a photo.
‪6.‬ You’ll never get to enjoy freshly cooked meals because they’ll spend 15 minutes taking 20 variations of the same dish with their iPhone.
‪7.‬ They get angry when your friends go up to them and say “I am interested in photography, can you recommend a good camera for me? Nothing professional I just want to take pretty pictures.”
‪8.‬ You’ll wait longer for them to finish analyzing art in a museum than you’ll wait at the dmv
‪9.‬ Same goes with old used bookstores.
‪10. ‬When you think they’re giving you their undivided attention, they’re really wondering how they could fix you with a little Clone Tool and Patch Tool.
‪11.‬ Or they are actually using you to not look so creepy as they people watch everything going on around you.
‪12.‬ They rather drop $1,000+ on new glass than a purse for you.
‪13.‬ You can’t take a photo with them without taking at least five more.
‪14.‬ If you ask them if you look fat, they’ll say “don’t worry I can photoshop you later.”
‪15.‬ They’ll never photoshop something simple for you if the content is not up to their “standards.”
‪16.‬ That photo they randomly took of you yesterday? Good luck getting them to send it to you.
‪17.‬ They spend all their time on the computer (and not for porn.)
‪18.‬ They can’t have a normal conversation with throwing acronyms and random numbers.
‪19.‬ They still use film cameras.
‪20.‬ They spend a lot of time with people cooler than you i.e. models, actors, musicians, successful rich people.
‪21.‬ They’ll be fussy over the position of a common household object, like a coffee cup.
‪22.‬ They won’t return your calls or text messages, but you can bet they’re still posting pics on Instagram.
‪23.‬ They like watching old films that you’ve never heard or will ever understand.
‪24.‬ They like looking at weird things in general.
‪25.‬ Instead of having penis-envy, they have camera-gear-envy.
‪26.‬ If there’s a natural disaster in a far away land, they’re already on a plane going over there.
‪27.‬ Everything is watermarked.
‪28.‬ They think everyone else’s photos suck.
‪29.‬ They want to color correct a lot of scenes from Twilight and Jersey Shore.
‪30.‬ They hate rainbows, especially ones spinning in a circle.
‪31.‬ Whenever you’re in a group talking and the conversation goes deep, they’re taking notes in some form of Moleskin.
‪32.‬ They use over priced Moleskin notebooks.
‪33.‬ They like trespassing into old abandoned buildings filled with health hazards.
‪34.‬ They always want to show a new photo they took, but don’t really care if you like it or not.
‪35.‬ They hate your n00bie friend’s new artsy profile picture.
‪36.‬ Bright, sunny days make them sad, but cloudy, overcast days are apparently great!
‪37.‬ They’ll take you into places that have “culture” as well a high chance of getting mugged.
‪38.‬ Your birthday present will be a portrait that they’ve taken of you.
‪39.‬ You can’t go anywhere new without them stopping to take a photo of everything and anything.
‪40.‬ They will always bug you to be a test subject.
‪41.‬ Nothing can ever be naturally pretty, everything must be fixed in Photoshop.
‪42.‬ Bringing their camera means, bringing 50lbs of equipment.
‪43.‬ If you break any of their things on accident, you’ll owe them thousands of dollars.
‪44.‬ You can’t get them a birthday/Christmas present without spending at least $500
‪45.‬ They are natural hoarders, collecting and keeping piles of old newspapers, packaging, magazines, and other things that “inspire” them.
‪46.‬ They are weird and geeky.
‪47.‬ They have hard drives of photos, but probably have printed 10 images.
‪48.‬ They are always secretly judging your creativity.
‪49.‬ If you’re ever in auto mode, they laugh at you.
‪50.‬ They orgasm every time they learn a new lighting technique.

Seriously, kalau korang tak terasa dgn statement kat atas ni, mmg tipu ah.

INFO - Ada Apa Dengan Kitlens Part III: Macro Edition

Assalamualaikum & Salam Sejahtera.

Okeh, lama tak kasi tips kat korang kan. Aku baru je habis final utk semester ni, takde masa sgt nak bikin artikel yg panjang-panjang. Setakat MEMBEBEL tu bole la sbb tak perlukan bahan sgt pun. Hehe.

Aku tau ramai antara korang yg berminat utk menangkap gambar benda kecik-kecik ni tapi tak tau cara dan teknik. So hari ni aku nak share mcm mana nak main macro dgn hanya guna kitlens.

Tapi kalau boleh.. eh bkn kalau boleh, wajib utk korang baca artikel macro ni utk menambahkan lagi pengetahuan dan pemahaman mengenai macro: Macro Photography

Artikel ni dibuat lepas aku nmpk masih wujud newbies yg tak habis-habis mempertikaikan kebolehan kitlens dlm sesuatu genre. Contohnya seperti berikut:
"Shoot wedding? Tapi saya pakai kitlens je, boleh ke?"
"Landscape? Segan la, saya takde 11-16mm F2.8, cuma ada kitlens je"
"Saya ada kitlens je, mana boleh guna utk shoot macro"
bla bla bla yada yada the list goes on...

Again, tak habis-habis nak mengutuk kitlens. Penat dah aku ulang - kalau dah diri sendiri yg tak reti pakai, guna lens apa pun gambar tetap tak cantik. Ada paham?

Incase kalau korang terlepas pandang, ini artikel Part III. Part I dan Part II boleh dibaca kat sini:
Part I
Part II

  1. Pentax K200D
  2. Kitlens: SMC Pentax-DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL II
  3. Flash: Metz 54 MZ-4i
  4. Macro tools: Macro filter dan reverse ring
  5. Duit syiling 10sen sbg subjek
  6. Handheld kesemuanya. Aku miskin, takde tripod :(

Setting:
  1. Shot in RAW, DNG Format
  2. Post processing with Adobe Lightroom 3.6 WITHOUT any cropping, cuma exposure/brightness editing, resizing & watermarking
  3. Minor post processing guna Photoscape v3.6 utk labeling + wording + captioning

==============================================================================================

KITLENS

Ok, kita start dgn tool yg paling basic iaitu lens ala kadar kita - kitlens.
Utk artikel ni, aku pakai apa yg aku ada je, iaitu kitlens Pentax.

Based on pengamatan aku, kitlens pentax ni menghasilkan gambar yg soft pada focal length 55mm.

Yg bestnya, ada indicator utk focusing distance, dan MFD (Minimum Focus Distance) pada kitlens ni ialah 0.25m (25cm), which is quite close utk lens murah mcm ni. Maka dgn MFD 0.25m ni, kerja me-macro lebih mudah dilakukan. Tak paham? Tgk gambar kat bwh ni:

Utk kitlens Nikon, kalau tak silap MFD ialah 0.28m, based on apa yg aku baca kat sini: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/18-55-ii.htm
Cuma malangnya, kitlens korang takde indicator.
Takpe, dlm step kat bwh nnt aku akan story mcm mana nak focus paling dekat walaupun takde distance indicator tu.

Utk brand lain (Canon, Sony, Olympus, Samsung etc etc) silalah buat research sendiri ye :)

Ok, so mcm mana nak main macro dgn kitlens ni?
First of all, makin jauh kita zoom, imej akan kelihatan makin besar, betul?
So by our logic thinking + common sense, kita jugak patut tau, utk main macro yg memerlukan high magnification, kita pakai lah focal length paling jauh yg kita ada, which in this case, 55mm lah.

Subjek kita adalah Yang Amat Berhormat Dato' Dr Seploh Seng:

Ok, berikut adalah step nak main macro guna kitlens:
  1. Manual mode ke Av mode ke sukati korang, janji exposure ngam, gambar tak over/underexpose.
  2. RAW ke JPEG ke, again, sukati. Tapi aku suggest pakai RAW supaya time korang crop nanti, kualiti imej masih terpelihara.
  3. Gunakan max zoom yg ada, so kalau pakai kitlens 1855, guna lah 55mm.
  4. Gunakan MF (Manual Focus).
  5. Jika lens korang ada focus distance indicator mcm lens aku tu, pusingkan focusing ring tu pada MFD dan biarkan je mcm tu, takyah usik dah.
  7. Just a reminder: Zooming ring dan focusing ring adalah 2 benda yg berbeza. Zooming ring utk korang zoom in/out drpd 18mm ke 55mm, manakala focusing ring ialah utk focus.

  8. So now, TANPA mengusik zooming dan focusing ring tu, letakkan mata anda ke viewfinder, compose-kan diri anda ke depan/belakang ke arah subjek sampai la subjek kelihatan sharp dlm viewfinder camera.
  9. Once subjek dah nmpk sharp, stop moving, kekalkan posisi anda.
  10. Ambil metering subjek. Seeloknya gunakan aperture f/8-f/14, depends pada berapa tebal DOF yg korang nak. ISO dan shutter speed tu pandai-pandai korang la, sbb kalau korang pakai tripod, lain plak setting nya.
  11. Make sure subjek dah betul-betul in focus.
  12. Make sure posisi badan korang tu betul-betul kukuh dan selesa.
  13. Snap

Maka dptlah hasil gambar yg seperti berikut:

f/11 | 1/30s | ISO-200

Bandingkan dgn gambar sploh sen yg kat atas tu, kira not bad la jugak kan dpt 10sen besar mcm ni TANPA extra tools. Gambar ni aku tak crop taw. Dah bgtau kat atas tu, tiada cropping dilakukan.

==============================================================================================

KITLENS + MACRO FILTER

Ok, let say korang ada macro filter. Basically caranya sama je mcm guna kitlens tu, cuma bezanya ada filter kat depan yg membolehkan korang dpt magnification yg lebih besar.

Cuma nasihat drpd aku, kalau korang ada attach UV Filter, sila tanggalkan. Sbb filter ni sumtimes dia degrade quality gambar, so dgn kewujudan UV Filter yg takde kena mengena dgn macro ni bakal menyebabkan gambar lebih tak sharp.

Pada aku ada 3 je macro filter: +4, +4 dan +2 bersaiz 52mm, mmg ngam-ngam utk kitlens aku.

So just pasang je filter tu kat depan lens dan ikut je sebijik-sebijik step yg dah dinyatakan dlm bahagian kitlens di atas.

Hasilnya? Of coz lebih better drpd kitlens semata-mata:

==============================================================================================

 KITLENS + REVERSE RING

Ok, part ni susah, seriously. Mungkin byk term yg korang tak paham tapi mcm biasa, tak paham boleh tanya atau gugel sendirik. Jgn tanya soalan bodoh sudah, mmg kena la ngan aku sat g.

First of all, memperkenalkan, ini reverse ring:

Acane nak pakai? Pasang kat depan lens mcm pasang filter.

Lepas tu mount kan pd body camera dalam keadaan terbalik (reverse).

Ok, part ni yg susah actually. Since kitlens serta lens-lens zoom lain (especially utk cropped sensor) takde aperture ring, maka pengawalan aperture semasa menggunakan reverse lens adalah sgt leceh.

Blur tak paham? Takpe, aku guide. Ini ialah aperture spring:

Bila kita mount lens pada body camera dlm keadaan normal, spring tu ditarik kpd aperture maksimum. Time kita snap gambar baru spring tu menutup ikut setting aperture yg kita dah set pada kamera.
Tapi bila kita mount lens tu dlm keadaan reverse, spring tu akan kekal pd posisi asalnya, iaitu aperture minimum: f/22. Sbb tu korang akan nmpk imej dlm viewfinder tu gelap giler, sbb aperture sgt kecik time tu.

So apa perlu bikin? Tangan kanan pegang kamera, tangan kiri kawal lens dan gunakan jari yg free utk contol spring tu:

Atau, utk kasi spring tu tak tertutup, sekat lubang tu dgn kertas, supaya dia maintain terbuka. Terbuka besar mana tu korang punya selera la.

Utk canon, lens korang hebat sgt, takde menatang spring ni, so lens korang punya aperture tu terbukak sepanjang masa. Based on perbualan aku dgn CANONian, diorang guna cara ni:
  1. Guna BULB mode, set aperture pd f/number yg dikehendaki, pastu tekan shutter button jgn kasi lepas, pstu bukak lens. Aperture pd lens tu akan di-lock pd setting kita tadi. Atau...
  2. Mount kitlens mcm biasa kat body, setkan aperture yg dikehendaki, lps tu tekan DOF Button yg berada di tepi lens, jgn lepas, pastu cabut lens drpd body.  Aperture pd lens tu akan di-lock pd setting kita tadi.
  3. Lps tu gunalah lens tu dgn ext tube ke reverse ring ke, apedehal~
  4. Tak tau kat mana DOF button pe semua tu? Maka rujuklah user manual.

Ok, so lps mount lens tu pd body camera dlm keadaan terbalik, dah boleh mula shooting.
Dlm keadaan reverse, focal length jugak akan jadi terbalik.

Contohnya mcm ni, dlm keadaan normal, imej pd focal 55mm akan kelihatan lebih besar drpd 18mm.
Tapi bila reverse, imej pd 18mm tu lebih besar drpd 55mm. So memang kena la dgn maksud reverse tu.

Ekceli ada pengiraan matematik dlm menentukan magnification bila reverse ni, tapi detail sgt, aku malas. Kalau korang nak tau, sila la gugel sendirik ye.

Utk artikel kali ni, aku shoot gambar yg sama, dlm keadaan reverse, tp dgn focal length yg berbeza-beza, ikut marked focal length tu, sbb nak kasi korang nampak perbezaan saiz imej yg terhasil bila focal length yg berbeza digunakan.

Step nak shoot sama je mcm tutorial kat bhgn kitlens td, cuma aku repeat byk kali sbb aku shoot dgn focal length 18mm, 24mm, 35mm, 45mm dan 55mm.

Ok, part exposure metering tu yg susah sbb lens dipasang terbalik, so takde electronic contact, maka body camera tak dpt baca maklumat aperture drpd lens.

Mcm Pentax, ada Green Button, yg membolehkan aku dpt exposure yg ngam walaupun lens tak dipasang dgn normal.

Utk pengguna Nikon, especially yg pakai body SELAIN D200, D300/s dan Full Frame DSLR, korang akan menghadapi masalah dlm me-meter exposure sbb kamera korang akan tunjuk F-- pd bhgn aperture.
So apa patut korang buat?

Sorry again, sila gugel sendirik.

Berikut adalah hasil yg aku dapat. Perhatikan saiz syiling 10sen tu dan focal length yg dinyatakan. Again, no cropping was made.

==============================================================================================

Ok done. So nmpk tak ekceli kitlens ni boleh je digunakan utk shoot macro.

Lagi satu, dgn kitlens, jarak kita dgn subjek adalah sgt dekat, so mungkin tak berapa sesuai utk shoot insect, especially yg senang lari bila kita dtg dekat ni.

So udah-udah la dgn mindset "kitlens takleh shoot macro" tu. With the right skill, even with the lowest end tools and equipments, mesti ada cara punya. Antara nak/taknak atau rajin/malas je.

Btw, bkn kitlens je. Tips ni boleh je diguna pakai kat lens-lens lain, especially zoom lens. Pandai-pandai lah sesuaikan tips tu dgn kesesuaian lens korang.

Kalau korang rasa ada yg patut ditambah, do let me know.

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY

Jenis Pemandu yg Layak Diberi Pelempang Lelaju

Assalamualaikum & Salam Sejahtera.

Aku cukup anti dgn pemandu berikut:
  1. Pemalas giler nak bg signal sebelum membelok/memotong
  2. Suka potong Q
  3. Ikut emergency lane walhal takde emergency mende pun

Yg malas bg signal tu, ikutkan hati nak je aku kerat jari tu. Takpun kasi pecah lampu signal tu. Nak marah watpe, bukan korang pakai pun lampu tu kan?

Yg ikut emergency lane tu plak, kalau aku kat lane kiri, aku akan saje-saje himpit kiri supaya diorang takleh lalu emergency lane tu, padan muka.
